Secular-politics: Needs and Challenge

secularism is meant to be far from any kind of non-religious matter or state governance, and the government does not discriminate on the basis of religion. The meaning of secularism is not meant to counter someone, in fact, it gives freedom to all to practice their religious belief and opinions. Any nation’s politics is more secular than the democracy of that country will be stronger. 

Moreover, it is important in a politics that is secular and all political parties do not spread their propaganda. More than one religious person lives in approximately every country. Hence, it proves that the number of one religion people would be more in every country. If the people of the majority religion take the power, their group could take advantage of the power and economic resources against other religions to discriminate and harass. On account of this, minorities could face discrimination. If the majority can make minorities stop living according to them, discrimination based on religion is the violence of rights, provided every citizen practices any religion in a democratic country. Indian democracy has adopted a secular political system. Indian secularism per se is a unique concept that has adapted keeping in mind the special needs of Indian culture and properties. India per se is a large democracy of several communities. Hence, it is important to be secularist in politics.

But, in the present time, some changes are found in Indian politics, wherein several political parties are polarizing the politics to get power. Owing to this political polarization, many political parties have divided Indian society individually to obtain power, these factors are attributed to various types of riots, religious persecution, and unsocial activities in society. The greed for power has increased in several political parties and they started dividing society to get power, due to this our image, being a secular state, is vanishing, and the rights, given by the constitution, are being violated. Due to thriving the polarization of politics, phenomena like mob lynching are also on the rise.   

However, doing politics on a religious base has become a compulsion of many political parties, for any political party cannot succeed in getting power based on secular politics. Our society has even become a vote bank of political parties. At present, in Indian politics, voters elect their leader on the basis of caste rather than development and security. On account of this politics has been divided along religious and cast lines.

Furthermore, there must be secular politics in any nation to have better democracy because several religious people live in the country and each one has their different well, hence, it is also the responsibility of political parties they protect the rights of every religious community and uphold the constitution as paramount. Religion is a purely personal choice, therefore, representatives should be aware that religion is a personal matter in a secular country, so it should not be converted into a political issue as well as separated from politics.
